Some Immersion Theorems for Projective Spaces
Adem and Gitler showed in [4] and [7] that RPn has a best possible immersion in R2n'i for n=X mod 4 and <*(«) = 3. These results are interesting only for small values of a(«) due to Milgram's construction of linear immersions in [21]. The method of proof consists of expressing certain obstructions to the lifting of an appropriate map by AdamsMaunder operations and then evaluating these operatio...
متن کاملOn the Immersion Problem for Real Projective Spaces
Hence, and from the Hurwitz-Radon theorem, it follows that if P' can be immersed in (2j — k)-space, when j + 1 is a power of 2, then P admits a fc-field of linearly independent tangent vectors. Our method is based on the work of Adams [ l ] , Atiyah [2] and Hopf [6]. In [3] Atiyah has proved, by the method of exterior powers, that P' cannot be immersed in (2j —£)-space where p is approximately ...
متن کاملSome New Immersion Results for Complex Projective Space
We prove the following two new optimal immersion results for complex projective space. First, if n 3 mod 8 but n 6 3 mod 64, and (n) = 7, then CP can be immersed in R 4n 14 . Second, if n is even and (n) = 3, then CP can be immersed in R 4 . Here (n) denotes the number of 1's in the binary expansion of n. The rst contradicts a result of Crabb, which said that such an immersion does not exist, a...
متن کاملSome Maximal Elements’ Theorems in FC-Spaces
Let I be a finite or infinite index set, let X be a topological space, and let Yi, φNi i∈I be a family of FC-spaces. For each i ∈ I, letAi : X → 2i be a set-valued mapping. Some new existence theorems of maximal elements for a set-valued mapping and a family of set-valued mappings involving a better admissible set-valuedmapping are established under noncompact setting of FC-spaces. Our results ...
متن کاملSome New Nonimmersion Results for Real Projective Spaces
We use the spectrum tmf to obtain new nonimmersion results for many real projective spaces RP for n as small as 113. The only new ingredient is some new calculations of tmfcohomology groups. We present an expanded table of nonimmersion results. Our new theorem is new for 17% of the values of n between 2 and 2 + 2 for i ≥ 15.
